The Helmsley Charitable Trust has run 2 programs with FAPBM.

Program 1 : Support for New Protected Areas creation and management

The Malagasy Government has pledged to triple the size of its protected areas, from 1.7 ha to over 6 million hectares.

The Helmsley Charitable Trust’s financial support was aimed at obtaining final protection status for four New Protected Areas (NPAs): Ambohidray, Antrema, Itremo, and Montagne des Français, managed respectively by ACCE (Arongampanihy Communication, Culture, and Environment), MNHN (National Museum of Natural History), RBG Kew Garden (Royal Botanical Garden), and SAGE (Supporting Service for the Environment Management), and to partially fund the operating costs of these NPAs.

Program 2 : Participation of Madagascar in the World Parks Congress, Sydney, November 2014

The World Parks Congress, WPC, in Sydney was an opportunity to enhance Madagascar’s exposure as one of the megadiversity countries. Funding from the Helmsley Charitable Trust enabled the Foundation to arrange the presence of a significant number of national park managers and NGO leaders in the WPC in Sydney.
