Biodiversity conservation is, above all, a human endeavour. Behind every protected area supported, every partnership forged and every community assisted, there are men and women who share a common ambition: to preserve Madagascar’s sources of life.
Recognising that its people are its greatest strength, Madagascar Protected Areas and Biodiversity Fund (FAPBM) brought together all its staff for an organisational meeting. Far more than just a team-building exercise, this gathering was a key opportunity for strategic alignment, collective reflection and strengthening cohesion, in preparation for the challenges ahead.
In a context where the challenges relating to conservation, climate change and sustainable development are becoming increasingly complex, FAPBM has chosen to invest in the key to its success: its human capital.
An organisation committed to continuous improvement
This organisational meeting began with a collective review of the year 2025. Each department presented its key achievements, the results obtained and the lessons learnt from the past year.
As well as sharing performance results, this exercise has fostered a shared vision of the Foundation’s progress, a better understanding of each team’s contributions, and the identification of areas for improvement to further enhance the organisation’s effectiveness.
This approach reflects FAPBM’s commitment to promoting a culture of accountability, continuous learning and collective performance in pursuit of its mission.
Bringing values to life on daily basis
The discussions also provided an opportunity to reflect on the values that underpin the Foundation’s identity: Passion, Accountability and Ethics.
Through participatory workshops, staff were invited to reflect together on how these values are put into practice in their day-to-day work, their relationships with partners and the way they work together.
For, beyond technical skills, it is also behaviour, trust and a shared culture that enable us to build a high-performing and sustainable organisation.

A shared vision to move forward together
The seminar also provided an opportunity to strengthen ownership of the Foundation’s strategic vision and to share the priorities that will guide our collective efforts in the years ahead.
Each department translated these shared objectives into its own area of responsibility, fostering stronger collaboration across teams and a common understanding of everyone’s role in achieving the Foundation’s mission.
This strategic alignment helps reinforce the coherence of FAPBM’s actions while bringing all staff together around a shared ambition: to ensure the long-term protection of Madagascar’s protected areas, which are the true sources of life for communities today and of future generations.

Team cohesion as a driver of performance
The success of an organisation also depends on the strength of its people and the quality of their relationship. Throughout the seminar, a series of collaborative workshops and group activities punctuated these days.
Designed to foster active listening, trust, communication, emotional intelligence and individual accountability, these sessions enabled colleagues to get to know one another better, build stronger cross-departmental synergies and reinforce the team spirit that drives the Foundation.
This collective momentum is a key asset in addressing the complex challenges of biodiversity conservation, which require ongoing cooperation between the organisation’s diverse expertise and skills.

A committed team to maximise its impact
By investing in the development of its people, FAPBM reaffirms a strong conviction: its impact on the ground begins with the ability of its teams to share a common vision, work collaboratively and embody the values that underpin the Foundation’s mission.
As the seminar comes to a close, staff leave with renewed ambition, a shared sense of purpose and stronger team cohesion, ready to continue working together to safeguard Madagascar’s protected areas.
Because protecting tomorrow’s sources of life also means building, today, a strong, committed organisation that is resolutely focused on the future.
